According to the Hindu Lunar calendar, Ekadashi is the 11th day of Krishna Paksha. It occurs 2 times in a month and as per Hindus, Ekadashi is an auspicious day as people keep vrat. In Vijaya Ekadashi 2025, people worship Lord Vishnu and Shri Krishna. For a long time fasting on this day has been observed to please lord Vishnu.
In a leap year, there are 26 Ekadashi and otherwise, there are 24. As per Ekadashi rules, people chant lord Vishnu’s name and hear Vijaya Ekadashi Katha stay awake throughout the night, and sing praises of Lord Vishnu. Each Ekadashi has its own story and Katha, which shows its power.
Vijaya Ekadashi 2025 Date and Timings
Vijaya Ekadashi is celebrated on the 11th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalgun which comes in February or March.

People who keep fast need to break it after sunrise the next day of Ekadashi. It is important to break the fast on Dwadashi Tithi and Dwadashi ends on 10th March at 5:10 P.m. Also one of the important things is not to break the fast on Hari Vasara (4th duration of Dwadashi) instead break the fast in the morning.

Vijaya Ekadashi importance
As the name suggests Vijaya means victory and observing the fast of Vijaya Ekadashi along with proper rituals for the day blesses the person to be victorious and successful in this life.
Lord Krishna mentioned to Yudhishthira that is all narration of all Ekadashi and also listening or reading stories is enough to collect merits equal of performing of Ashvamedha Yajna.

3. Improve spiritual, emotional, and intellectual strengths.
Vijaya Ekadashi Katha
Vijaya Ekadashi's story comes from the Hindu text Skanda Purana and the story narrated by Lord Krishna to Yudhishthira. The story is told by Narad Muni by Lord Brahma and is based on the epic Ramayana.
When lord Ram exile with his wife Goddess Sita and brother Laxman, the demon king Ravan kidnaped Sita. And when Lord and Laxman find Sita missing, lord ram gets overwhelmed. It was the Jatayu, the devotee of the Lord, who tried to save goddess Sita but he got brutally injured.
But before Jatayu last breathed, he told lord ram about Sita’s kidnapping. After that lord ram met the king of monkeys Sugriva who was ready to support lord ram with his army of monkeys to find Maa Sita. Lord Hanuman was sent to Lanka, the kingdom of Ravan to find Sita.
Lord Hanuman finds the goddess sitting in Ashok Vatika’s Garden. Lord Hanuman delivered the message of lord ram to Sita and gave her Lord Ram's ring as proof of his message. After knowing that Sita maa is in Lanka, lord ram decided to wage war against Ravan.
So, lord ram, Laxman, and Sugriva’s army reached to shores of the ocean to reach Lanka. But the ocean was too deep and crocodiles in oceans would be dangerous for them. In this situation, lord ram requested Laxman to suggest some methods to cross the ocean.
On the suggestion of Laxman, lord ram visited sage Bakadalbhya and the sage knew that lord ram was the avatar of lord Vishnu who just playing his role as a human being. Lord Ram told him about the situation and hearing this, the sage told the lord, that observing Vijaya Ekadashi would ensure the success of crossing the ocean and also the victory over Ravan.
After this sage told the specific rituals to be followed in Vijaya Ekadashi. After hearing the ritual and following every word of the ritual of Ekadashi, he was him the blessing to cross the ocean with Vanar Sena and defeat King Ravan.

Vijaya Ekadashi Mantra
1. श्रीकृष्णगोविन्द हरे मुरारे। हेनाथ नारायण वासुदेवाय।।
2. ॐ नारायणाय विद्महे। वासुदेवाय धीमहि । तन्नो विष्णुप्रचोदयात्।।
3. ॐ विष्णवे नम:
4. धन-समृद्धि मंत्र: ॐ भूरिदा भूरिदेहिनो , मा दभ्रं भूर्याभर। भूरि घेदिन्द्र दित्ससि। ॐ भूरिदा त्यसिश्रुत: पुरूत्रा शूर वृत्रहन्। आनो भजस्व राधसि ।
5. लक्ष्मीविनायक मंत्र: दन्ता भये चक्र दरोदधानं, कराग्रगस्वर्णघटं त्रिनेत्रम्। धृता ब्जया लिंगितमब्धिपुत्रया, लक्ष्मीगणेशं कनकाभमीडे।।
6. विष्णुके पंचरूप मंत्र: ॐ अं वासुदेवायनम:।। ॐ आंसंकर्षणाय नम:।। ॐअं प्रद्युम्नाय नम:।। ॐअ: अनिरुद्धाय नम:।। ॐनारायणाय नम:।। ॐह्रीं कार्तविर्यार्जुनो नाम राजा बाहुसहस्त्रवान। यस्य स्मरेण मात्रेणह्रतं नष्टं च लभ्यते।।

Vijaya Ekadashi significance rituals
The rituals of Vijaya Ekadashi are different from other Ekadashi rituals. These rituals are:
1. Before the day of Ekadashi that is Dashami, take a gold, silver, or copper pot. If these metals are not available; a new clay pot will also work. Fill the pot with water.
2. Decorate the pot with mango tree leaves.
3. Cover the pot and place it in the sacred place of worship with 7 grains like wheat, rice, barley, corn, kukani, chickpeas, and Dahi or peas.
4. Decorate the pot with flower garland and sandalwood paste.
5. On the top of the pot place coconut, barley, and pomegranate.
6. Worship the pot of water offering flowers. Ghee diya, sandalwood paste, and food as Naivedyam.
7. Place the golden idol of lord Sri Narayan on top of the pot where coconut etc. are kept.
8. Try to wake up at night.
9. After taking a bath, replace the flower garland with a new one and use sandalwood paste to decorate the pot.
10. Worship the pot again by lighting a Ghee lamp, and incense and offering a flower dipped in sandalwood paste.
11. Offering fruit pomegranate, coconut, and food like Naivedyam.
12. On the next day of Dwadashi, the pot along with the things offered should be taken to a riverbank or pond where the pot should be worshipped.
13. Offer all the ingredients to Brahmin.
14. Also chanting praises of the lord and worshipping him with devotion is very important.
