Mahabharata: Why did Lord Krishna Choose Arjun?
We all know that Lord Krishna advised Arjuna during the Mahabharata war. Their brotherly relationship is also unknown to us. But do we understand why Krishna told Geeta to Arjun about the Mahabharata war and why not to another Pandavas? Let’s understand it in detail.
Lord Krishna and arjuna: The divine Relationship
Lord Krishna and Arjuna share a brotherly divine relationship. Lord Krishna calls Arjun “Angha”, a person who has not sinned. Krishna helped and motivated Arjuna in Mahabharata and before the war. He accurately guides Arjun and shares his timeless knowledge.
Arjun was his devotee, so Krishna gave him divine vision. He defined the battle of Kurukshetra for everyone by showing themselves sitting in a single chariot. Through this, they become the divine power and friendship. Their relationship proved to be a victory, reducing the most challenging problems.
Lord Krishna tells Geeta to Arjun.
As we all know Krishna chose Arjun as the receiver of his advice because he thought he was more able than his other brothers, Drona, Karan, and Bhisham. Lord Krishna finds Bhishma uncompromising and Karan too proud, but Arjun is different as he is ready for Krishna’s advice.
Krishna saw Arjun had a hidden fear of losing his kinsmen in the battle of Mahabharata. And this made Arjun closer to humanity. He also noticed his qualities like understanding, ethical and moral values, and courtesy. This is the main reason Krishna tells Geeta about Arjun. He gives his advice to Arjun, reading Bhagavad Geeta before the Mahabharat war.

Krishna explained shlokas to Arjun as he believed Arjun understood and valued ethical principles. He gives the knowledge of Bhagwat Geeta to Arjun before and during the war. He explained a few shlokas to Pandavas and some of them are:
Values, and courtesy. This is the reason Krishna tells Geeta to Arjun. He gave his advice to Arjuna, sharing the teachings of the Bhagavad Geeta before the big Mahabharata War.
- “यदा,यदा हि धर्मस्य, ग्लानिर् भवति भारत.,”
This is a verse from the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna tells Arjuna in the Mahabharata: Whenever there is more wrongdoing on Earth, he will appear to bring back goodness and protect his people.
- “कर्मण्ये वाधिकारस्ते, मा फलेषु कदाचना। मा कर्म-फल हेतुर भू मा, ते सङ्गोस्त्वकर्मणि..”
In this verse, the Lord explains the value of concentrating on our goals without worrying about the outcomes. Various factors, like our past actions, God's influence, and fate, play a role in determining our results. Krishna advises us to focus on our work without dwelling on the results. This is why we achieve better outcomes when we fully concentrate on our tasks.
- “रसो हम अप्सु कौन्तेय प्रभास्मि, शशि सूर्य योः…प्रणवः सर्व विदेषु, शब्दः खे पौरुषम् नृषु..”
In this passage, Shree Palanhaar, the Supreme God, explains that he is the only source of light in Sansaar (the Universe). He is present everywhere in the Universe. He mentions that he has the taste of pure water because people prefer drinking pure water over seawater.
He also says that he is the light of the Sun and the Moon. Krishna also states that he is present in the Vedic mantras, which are more acceptable to humans because people believe that chanting his mantras brings eternal peace and happiness. He explains that he is the power within humans and the essence of everything in the Universe. This is what Lord Krishna told Geeta to Arjun.
- “नैनं छिंदन्ति शास्त्राणि, नैनं दहति पावक..न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यपो,न सोसयति मारुतः..”
Shree Krishna explains that the human body is simply a way for the soul to exist. The soul is invisible and cannot be harmed or destroyed in any way. No weapon can cut it, fire can't burn it, and wind can't weaken it.
